Soroptimist International

We are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have over 25,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

In the heart of Palm Desert, for six decades, Soroptimist International of Palm Desert has been more than a club; it’s been a vibrant tapestry woven with the threads of dedication, compassion, and the indomitable spirit of its members.

From its humble beginnings to the present, our Soroptimist journey has been one of resilience and community impact. Through the years, we’ve weathered challenges, celebrated triumphs, always guided by every member who became part of our Soroptimist family.

As we reflect on these six decades, we pay homage to every member, past and present, whose tireless efforts have defined the essence of Soroptimist Int’l of Palm Desert. From the founding pioneers to the current stewards, each one has left an indelible mark on our shared history.

Our past fuels our determination to continue fostering empowerment and to create positive change in our community. Soroptimist International of Palm Desert is not just an organization; it’s a legacy passed down through sixty years, and it’s our duty to carry that torch forward.
